The first product that I would like to promote for small businesses is Acuity Scheduling. This tool will automate scheduling of appointments and even take payments! But before I get into that, I’ll tell you a story.
For those of you who don’t know, I am a former business owner and lifelong entrepreneur. What I mean by that is, I have this passion for starting things that I just cannot turn off. It really drives my wife nuts. Coupled with this, is a self-taught business acumen that my coworkers have noticed.
First Business Start-up
The business that I launched was a essentially a computer repair shop. I served individual customers as well as businesses. And from what everyone said, I was good at it. I never like to toot my own horn, so that last sentence was very hard to write. Without going into too much detail, the reason the business is no longer is because I made the mistake of signing a lease for a storefront too early and drowning in overhead costs.
However, that is not the point of this story. There came a time in which I needed to get a couple part time jobs on top of owning the shop and as such, I wasn’t able to be at the storefront during regular hours. That is where Acuity Scheduling was a lifesaver.
Here is how:
- Schedule blocks of time that you are available to work
- Custom factored forms that can be filled out during scheduling
- Sync calendar availability with Google, Office 365, Outlook or iCal
- Collect payment at the point of scheduling and vault information for later payment
- Embed your availability right on any webpage
Since I was not at the storefront normally, I would invite customers to schedule a time using Acuity. I had a prebuilt form that got the basic information about the issue they are facing and collected a deposit for the service. The best thing is that Acuity can vault their credit card information to easily charge them at completion of service.
The calendar sync functionality made this tool very simple to use and prevented overbooking appointments. I was able to put my part time work schedule on my Google calendar and any appointments that were scheduled automatically updated the availability on my website.
The last beautiful feature I will highlight is the fact that you can embed your booking calendar on any webpage. This will allow prospective clients to see your availability before booking an appointment. This also syncs fully with any Google Calendar so you will never overbook again.
Now comes the pitch. Feel free to move onto another post at this point:
